See modelsSawdust, grain and clamps: which shots suit a woodshop?
Someone ordering custom furniture wants proof that you work with real wood and care about the small stuff. Good options: boards stacked by species, a workbench with chisels, clamps and a square, hands sanding an edge, a dovetail joint up close, or a finished shelf with the grain showing. Clients often waver between solid wood and engineered panels, and pictures help you explain that difference in plain terms.
Putting workshop photos to use
- Custom furniture page: A pencil drawing next to freshly cut stock shows that every piece starts from the client's measurements.
- Wood species guide: Side-by-side 3:2 close-ups of pine, cedar and oak let people compare color and grain.
- Maps listing: Alongside real photos of your space, add tool and shaving details to posts about new commissions or shop closures.
- Home show flyers: A joint or a rounded edge up close, with space left for your contact details.
- Short vertical videos: In 9:16, a hand plane curling off a long shaving or finish being brushed on; quick clips that walk through the process.
Woodworking-specific advice
- If you mostly build with melamine or particleboard, don't fill the site with solid hardwood; clients will ask for finishes you don't offer.
- Avoid shots with unsafe tool use or fingers near a saw blade. Other woodworkers notice, and so do customers.
- A finished piece from a stock photo isn't your work. Present it as a style idea and keep your gallery for your own builds.
- Mention real drying and finishing times next to finish photos so nobody expects a dresser by tomorrow.
