Fast food choices happen in seconds, usually while scrolling an app or reading a lit menu board. The photos that work show the toasted bun, cheese melting over the patty, fries in a paper cone, the griddle sizzling and a tray packed to go. Kitchen scenes with a worker seen from behind assembling an order show speed and a clean line. Customers mainly want to know what comes in the combo and whether the portion is enough.
Where each fast food photo goes
- Digital menu boards: Wide 16:9 shots of each combo with every item visible, burger, fries and drink, on a dark background so they pop.
- Delivery app listings: Square images of the item alone, centered and free of text, since the app crops the edges in list view.
- Google Business Profile: Your actual storefront and order counter come first; stock food shots can support menu items but shouldn't replace your restaurant.
- Short videos and Reels covers: Vertical 9:16 scenes of the griddle, the fryer or a sandwich being built, with steam and motion.
- Coupon flyers: This week's featured item up close, with room on one side for the deal name.
Tips for fast food imagery
- The burger in the photo should look like the one you hand over: same bun, same layers, same size. A shot with twice the meat leads to complaints.
- If you deliver, show your real packaging. The box or bag tells people how the order arrives.
- If hot dogs, fried chicken or tacos are your main draw, lead with those rather than a burger just because burger photos are easy to find.
- Leave out scenes with messy trays or crumpled napkins. At a grab-and-go spot, cleanliness counts as much as flavor.
